Tomorrow is not Promised!

Tomorrow is not promised, and life truly is like a vapor

Proverbs 27:1

“Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”

James 4:14

“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

It is so humbling to think back to when you were in your youth and you couldn’t wait to be an adult. I can’t exactly remember when I discovered that this was actually foolish thinking.

Life is spent waiting for the next thing that is exciting or perceived to be good. In fact, as I am typing this message, a notification was sent to me saying a book I put on hold is now available, although the other three books that I just checked out have yet to be read.

People in prison or jail are said to be in a sort of revolving door mindset. They go to jail anticipating their release; once released, they are still in the mindset that they have to “get out,” which stimulates them to commit a crime again so they will go back into jail, just so they can again be excited about getting out.

Do we ever truly sit back and thank Yah for this life that He has given, or are we just too busy complaining and moving on to the next thing? If you stand over your stove and watch a pot of boiling water, you will observe the steam that comes up from the pot. That is a vapor. How short the moment is, and this very thing is what the Bible speaks of when explaining the time that we have on the earth. Will we hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” or “Depart from me, you workers of iniquity, I never knew you”?

One must be mindful that it will be one or the other.

Today was a bit of a reality check in so many ways.

A simple trip to Costco turned into a bit of devastation.

As we arrived, there were loud sirens coming from a fire engine, but I thought nothing of it. Perhaps someone triggered a smoke alarm.

But then I saw an ambulance and a stretcher.

I thought, okay, maybe someone had a slip and fall incident.

It wasn’t until after a while that I saw a man on the floor.

A bit later, the EMS team was seen doing CPR while they wheeled this man out on a gurney… The man was absolutely unconscious and blue in the face!

I remember just stopping in my tracks to pray.

Some lady in an orange dress was following the medical team, praying for the man.

She didn’t know him at all.

Myself and other customers spent periods of time reflecting on what we saw and witnessed.

We have no idea what happened with that man, but we do have the ability to ask Yah about our own lives.

May He have mercy on us as we repent and not have a violent or harsh ending.

For it is written, there is indeed a time for everything, including death and judgment:

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;”

Hebrews 9:27

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

Praise Yah!
